Hi all,

I know that there are many topics about brakes updates, but I want to try to gather all information I found in a unique topic.

I focuses only on Honda or Acura OEM updates, because they are cheap, easy to find and maintain.

I think anything bigger than 300mm front disc will need 17" or greater wheel diameter as well. I have 16" and the stock calipers just clear the inside edge of the rim by ~3mm or so.

this is why I've always felt if I'm going to upgrade my front brakes, I'll use reconditioned 6th gen Type R callipers. It's the simplest way to get two piston braking without the risk for future complications.

That said, if you know you'll have the clearance, the 8th gen type S with the larger discs and twin pot callipers is probably a mean stop!!!

This topic could be complete with our experience. If you have some info about wheel clearance needed, I'll update the first post. I'll be also happy if you have cheap rear brake upgrade to suggest.

Hopefully this works, I have tried three times to get a pic to show but it won't work for me.
small amount of clearance between the 16" wheel and caliper

Perhaps someone could post what are the grippiest pads currently available for stock calipers. For road conditions and speeds (i.e. not 200Mph to zero track pads).

I know that EBC makes pads for OEM Accord calipers (VII & VIII), Green, Red & Yellow for front, only Green for rear. ATR calipers & Acura RL offers more choices.

For 7gen OEM setup you can buy Ferodo DS2500 on HTune ( they machine some pads for a different car to fit the Accord ) and for rear also just you must buy the pads for the 6gen ATR which are the same shape as the 7gen ( also the calipers are the same )
OEM disc's with DS2500 all around is more than enough is you ask me.
EBC RedStuff do not work well with MTEC disc's so avoid that combination ( check my post's ), but that disc's work well with some organic pads ( i have ATE ) and for road use is a beauty to have...
Even on 200+km/h to 0 no problems...tested :)

Ebc red are not for road use they are track pads and so wont be hot enough to work efficiently on road unless your using the highway as a race track

I've tried to Edit my first post, but I didn't have Edit option ... ?

I did not have any problems to keep them warm but they do not brake. I put them in smoke every day, but that's because the material disc/pad combination was bad not because they need temp to work.
However do not use them with MTEC disc's

It appears they would only be effective on EBC discs, however i have heard on various forums about users complaining that red / yellow pads do not perform well for road use they are ok on track but not road, your case may be different and there may well be incompatibility match with ebc red pads and mtec discs

^^as you can read on various forums the opinions about EBC pads are very mixed but still as you mentioned, is not all about the pads but about the combination of materials.

Regarding the EBC's ... Last year I upgraded to the EBC grooved and drilled discs with yellow pads on front.
Must say that I am very pleased with this upgrade. Even for normal use, they perform well.

^^In my opinion the best combination of disc and pads is from the same manufacturer like you have and thats the reason why they work well.
I made a mistake to mix MTEC with EBC

Is option 2 a straight bolt on the the 7th gen 2.2 diesel?

Do you have to have the carriers and discs as well or just caliper swop?

Yes it is, you need calipers, discs & pads.

Thanks for the info. I have emailed some ebay sellers who are breaking the 8th gen accords but no type s ones being broken up yet

The two-piston calipers from Legend are the same as the ATR 6th gen, but the smaller piston will sit on top on the Accord, as they are mounted backwards on the Legend.

I'm running the ATR 6th gen calipers for over an year now, and they're much much better than the original caliper. I'm using them with standard Ferodo Premier pads on OEM discs.
IMO, if you're not racing or going for looks, the other calipers are a bit overkill. I'm not saying they aren't better, but for a standard car not really needed.
There are other options too, Fiat/Alfa/Subaru 4pot brembos with custom brackets, large selection of pads too.

IMO, the main problem with ATR calipers is too find parts... It's hard to find a repair kit.

The other calipers, like Honda Pilot, are cheaper & easy to find...

Agree.

The cost of buying 2nd hand calipers AND carriers is expensive as breakers know their worth. When you buy them, you have added cost of refurbishment as there old calipers no matter how good they are.

Hi here,

some update... I found really cheap 4 pots brembo calipers that will fit on Accord hubs: Acura TL-S Brembos:

http://www.ebay.fr/itm/302020715122?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

According this topic, they will fit but require some modifications...

http://www.tsxclub.com/forums/1st-gen-suspension/57678-tl-type-s-brembos-tsx.html

Need a spacer for the rotor and calipers bolts are bigger...

I have purchased some Acura RL calipers for my Accord Tourer exec. Do I need to upgrade my brake cylinders?

may or may not be useful information but the j30 usdm accord coupe front brakes share their part number with the type r calipers, 45019-S1A-E21. I couldn't for the life of me find anything for the type r here in norway, but I was able to source them for the us accord
